Early Childhood Programs: A State Survey 1974-1975. Report No. 65. Early Childhood Project Report No. 11.
Education Commission of the States, Denver, CO.
This survey of the extent to which each state is supporting kindergarten and other early childhood services consists of three tables showing: (1) state-by-state expenditures (total and per pupil) for kindergarten and prekindergarten, other state-supported services (medical, dental, etc.) to prefirst graders; information on kindergarten entrance age and whether kindergarten is mandatory or permissive; (2) certification requirements (including agency responsible for certification) for day care personnel, prekindergarten and kindergarten teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals; and (3) program administration and personnel development, including responsible agencies, form of coordination among administrative agencies, and number of colleges and junior colleges offering programs in early childhood education. Data was obtained from response to a questionnaire sent to all states and three territories in 1972 and 1974. A one-page summary of table data is included. (BRT)
