Intended to aid administrators, architects, engineers, and contractors in designing barrier-free environments for the physically handicapped, the booklet contains information on accessibility aspects of the New York City Building Code and recommendations derived from experiments with the handicapped community as well as national and international sources. Recommendations (often accompanied by illustrative diagrams) are offered concerning the design of facilities such as exits, ramps, bathrooms, elevators, drinking fountains, public telephones, and parking lots.
