As part of a statewide survey, a questionnaire was mailed in April 1974, to the 940 students who had entered Harford Community College (HCC) for the first time in fall 1970; 257 (27 percent) responded. The survey was designed to ascertain the respondents' educational goals, their employment history, their transfer experiences, and their general assessment of HCC environment and services. Although only 27 percent of the respondents had graduated, nearly two-thirds indicated they had achieved primary educational goals. Three-fourths of the respondents were employed, most in full-time positions, and over half in Harford County. Sixty-two percent of the respondents indicated that HCC programs increased their theoretical understanding of their job, 61 percent felt HCC programs increased their job skills, and 42 percent felt their HCC experience had led to salary increases or promotions. Ninety-seven students (38 percent) had transferred to some other institution; of this group, 78 percent lost three credits or less in the transfer process. Ninety percent indicated that they would recommend HCC to a friend. Statewide results on this survey are compared to HCC results in many instances.
