This issue presents a collection of articles providing an overview of the philosophy and history of community education, as well as some views regarding its future. Characteristics of successful community education programs are listed, as are areas of the community/school relationship that should be analyzed to determine the potential acceptance of community education programs by the local community. Two articles concern the ways recently authorized federal funding for community education will necessitate serious planning and staff training. (Author/MLF)
