Alcohol Highway-Traffic Safety Workshop for Local Officials.
Walker, William; And Others
The manual, designed for one-and-one-half-day workshops with 20 to 40 local officials of various agencies from a single jurisdiction (e.g., county) who have responsibility for alcohol-highway safety, is one of five workshop manuals developed to assist State and local agencies involved in programs coping with the drinking-driver problem. Workshop goals include: encouraging communication between local officials, developing cooperative plans, and motivating implementation of these plans. Activities include: discussion of nature and scope of the problem, homogeneous small group plan-of-action discussions, rehabilitation agencies panel discussion, alcohol awareness seminar involving breath analysis, and heterogeneous small group plan-of-action discussions. The manual is organized into three major parts: (1) the introduction, with problem overview, manual synopsis, and workshop staffing suggestions; (2) the governor's representative and chairman workshop materials; and (3) appendixes including preworkshop instructions, group moderator workshop materials, and miscellaneous materials (these include information on audiovisual equipment, instructions, evaluation forms, and followup materials). The manual is designed to be completely self-executing and includes sample letters, fully executed speeches, discussion guidelines, evaluation instruments, and participant selection criteria. (MW)
