Career Education: Methods and Processes. Developmental Level K-6.
Missouri Univ., Columbia. Coll. of Education.
The guide is part of a set of materials designed to provide educators with activities infusing career education concepts into existing curriculum on the K-6 grade level. The first section provides a perspective of career education, and the second contains detailed methods and procedures necessary for the implementation of the underlying concept and of the activities suggested in the accompanying modules. The theoretical conceptualization for the project, discussed in section 1, is based on the Career Conscious Individual Model, emphasizing four basic domains: self-knowledge and interpersonal skills; knowledge and understanding of life roles, settings, and events; life career planning and placement knowledge and skills; and basic studies and occupational preparation. Section 2 offers detailed suggestions for: creating a facilitative classroom climate; infusing values clarification into activities; improving discussion techniques and developing role-playing situations in the classroom; and world of work exploration (helping students plan interviews, field trips, classroom visits, and presentations). A bibliography is provided. (JB)
