The career education activities in the guide are intended to be integrated with the school curriculum at the sixth grade level. These activities are designed to help elementary children become more aware of the world of work and may be used selectively according to class needs and capabilities. A career education philosophy, how to use the guide, concepts to develop (grades K-6), and intermediate (grades 4-6) objectives are outlined. Sixth grade career education activities are organized as they relate to 10 personal and world-of-work oriented objectives. Units are provided in the subject areas of art, language arts, math, science, and social studies. Each unit is keyed to a broad objective, broken down by specific behavioral objectives, for each of which there are suggested activities, teaching techniques, and resource materials. A sampling of activities includes making murals, reading, riddles, record keeping, displays, building model plans, discussions, field trips, class reports, map making, singing songs, and describing jobs.
