Beginnings. Teacher's Guide. Science Curriculum Improvement Study.
Herrera, Sharon; Thier, Herbert D.
This teacher's guide has been constructed to enable the teacher of science in elementary schools to turn the classroom into a science laboratory. The teacher becomes an observer and a guide when using this curriculum. The Science Curriculum Improvement Study (SCIS) Conceptual Framework and the Program Overview in this guide show how a unit of study is organized and its contribution to the entire SCIS program. For general suggestions on how to stimulate and implement the inquiry-centered, conceptually structured SCIS curriculum, a section entitled Clues for the Teacher is included in the guide. An important component of this unit is the large, well-designed, amply furnished equipment kit. Equipment and some suggestions for its efficient use are described. Concepts presented include color, shape, texture, odor, sound, size, quantity, position, and organisms. Each lesson contains suggestions for advanced preparations, teaching suggestions, and materials needed. (Author/EB)
