Longitudinal IQ Outcomes of the Mother-Child Home Program, 1967-1973.

Low-income families participated in several variations of a home-based intervention program which focused on modeling verbal interaction between mother and child around selected toys and books. Long-term results from a quasi-experimental design including 83 variously treated and 55 untreated students indicated that the amount of between group IQ difference was dependent on amount of program intervention within the range of conditions examined. The results support a conclusion of program effectiveness and indicate the need for the study of additional major dependent variables as well as for replication in a true experimental design which is currently under way.
