Curriculum Building Ethnic Studies and the Community.
Masters, Florence
This paper describes the development of a general model for an interdisciplinary ethnic studies curriculum and specific Czech materials by the Czech Ethnic Heritage Studies project at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The curriculum was developed for use in grades 7-14 and could be adapted for the elementary grades. It consists of 150 hours of instruction in language and culture with individualized and multimedia materials. Representatives from the Czech community, as well as other ethnic groups, were involved in the project as advisers. Project goals are discussed here in detail. An activities chart for project participants, a curriculum outline, and a materials list are included. (Author/PMP)
