Data-Bank Resource Packets.
Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge, MA. Museum Education Dept.
Primary sources such as diaries and census data from early nineteenth-century Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts are the basis for this set of resource packets. These supplementary packets, adaptable to various grade levels, help students explore questions about the pace of work in a rural society, the role of individuals in a farm family, community government, and many other topics. For example, the first packet includes role cards for a representative sample of the economic and occupational distribution of the 320 Sturbridge families in 1824. The second packet contains role cards for a demographically accurate sample of the households for the purpose of exploring the make-up of the family unit. The following packets are available: (1) Thirty-five Sturbridge Families, $3.50; (2) Thirty-five Sturbridge Households, $3.50; (3) Diaries and Autobiographies, $5.00; (4) The Agricultural Community, $3.50; (5) An Anonymous Farmer's Diary: A Research Kit (junior high and above), ($3.00; (6) Farming; Two Background Papers, $2.50; (7) Family Life, $3.00; (8) Formal Education and Apprenticeship, $4.50 (9) The Killingly School Record Book: A Research Kit (high school level and above), $3.50; (10) The Coming of the Mills, $3.50; (11) The Negro in New England, $1.50; (12) Community Issues and Town Government, $2.50; (13) Poverty and Poor Relief: A Case Study, $3.00; and (14) Orientation Slide Set and Scripts, $6.50.
