A Personalized, Non-Textbook-Oriented Approach to Learning German at Rose Hill Junior High School.

This report describes the approach to teaching German used at Rose Hill Junior High School in Redmond, Washington. The program provides for individualized instruction, and no major emphasis is put on any basic textbook. The program's development is summarized, followed by detailed discussion of the following: (1) the first phase of implementation, (2) use of learning games, (3) students' reaction to textbook material, (4) availability of materials, (5) procedure for determining assignments, (6) due dates for assignments, (7) environmental features, (8) paraprofessional aids, (9) evaluation of phase 1, (10) program results, (11) phases 2 and 3, and (12) philosophy, goals, and objectives.
