The Impact of Hierarchy and Group Structure on Information Processing in Decision Making: Application of a Networks/Systems Approach.
Ford, David L., Jr.
When one engages in organizational diagnosis, it has been suggested that greater understanding of the organization can come through: (1) an identification of all the channels conveying material and information, and (2) a description of the means by which this communication influences the behavior of the organization. A networks/system approach is proposed as an analytical perspective for the empirical investigation of structure as it relates to decisionmaking and information processing in groups and hierarchical organizations. More specifically, the study incorporated the communication network paradigm as a vehicle for the study of group structure and its effects on decisionmaking and information flow. (Author)
