Community Education: A Developing Concept.
Seay, Maurice F.; And Others
This book presents the process of community education and shows how it can be used to meet real educational needs in any community--urban, rural, small town, or large town. The concept, as defined and explained in this volume, asserts that community education "dares to attempt to achieve a reasonable balance and effective use of all the institutional forces in the education of all of the people." The 11 authors contributing to this volume consider the concept of community education and how it grew, the participants in community education, a theory of community education leadership, leadership training, and the organizational and administrative structure for community education. The roles of advisory councils, community colleges, universities, and professional associations in community education are discussed. Also considered are the roles of art, counseling, special education, and research in community education. (Author/DN)
