A Comparison of Resident Students' Quality Point Averages with Those of Commuting Students.
Call, Richard W.
To determine whether the scholastic averages of resident students at York College, Pennsylvania are significantly different from those of commuting students, 200 resident students were compared with 200 commuting students. The groups were randomly selected and matched in terms of sex, college class, marital status, and intelligence. Scholastic achievement was measured by their college quality point average. Statistical analysis of the data indicated that there was no significant difference between resident and commuting students in regard to scholastic average. Incidental to the research, a comparison was made of the total resident and commuting populations (609 resident and 923 commuters) without attempting to match samples. The comparison showed no significant difference between the populations in regard to scholastic achievement, but the commuters scored consistently higher averages than did the resident students. (DB)
