Continuation Proposal for the Information Services of The National Center on Educational Media and Materials for the Handicapped.
Ohio State Univ., Columbus. Research Foundation.
The project continuation proposal submitted for the Information Services of the National Center on Educational Media and Materials for the Handicapped by the Ohio State University Research Foundation to the Bureau of Education of the Handicapped in 1974 contains budgets and goals of the Information Services' three projects: National Instructional Materials Information System (NIMIS) Project, Data Sharing Project, and Publication Project. The primary project goal is the development of NIMIS, an information retrieval system designed to help teachers and media consultants locate information on instructional materials for handicapped learners. The retrieval service is intended to incorporate information from extensive existing systems and to be operational in fiscal year 1976. It is planned that NIMIS will be developed and implemented through the Area Learning Center (ALRC)/National Center on Educational Media and Materials for the Handicapped Network (NCEMMH) which is the replacing the 8-year-old Special Education Instructional Materials Network. The following goals of Information Services are identified: coordinating the development of common practices and data sharing systems, publishing and disseminating information about media and materials, demonstrating ALRC/NCEMMH/Specialized Office Network products and services, and maintaining media and materials archives.
