This textbook offers a course in French designed for those who need to make themselves understood on ordinary topics in French and cannot devote years of study to the language. It is a self-instructional course, but it is designed to be used with a native French speaker as a guide or, if no native speaker is available, with recordings that are available from the publisher. The text is divided into two major parts, each containing five learning units plus one unit for review. Each unit contains four sections: (1) basic sentences, (2) word study and review of basic sentences, (3) listening comprehension, and (4) conversation exercises.
