Feedback: A Language Concept Related to Effective Teaching. Student Guide.
Utah State Univ., Logan. Utah Protocol Materials Project.
This student guide is part of a learning module on the language concept of feedback related to effective teaching, which was developed as part of the Utah State University Protocol Materials Project. The complete module consists of the student guide, a protocol film, and testing materials. The student guide contains: (a) an introduction to protocols and instruction in their use; (b) a description of the concept of feedback; (c) lessons in the recognition and application of feedback in teaching situations; and (d) suggestions for incorporating feedback-soliciting techniques in the student's teaching repertoire. The principle underlying this module is that teacher language which is designed to solicit feedback from students facilitates teacher adjustment of the learning situation to meet student needs and thus increase student achievement. Three different kinds of feedback solicitation by the teacher are noted: (a) soliciting feedback related to student understanding; (b) soliciting feedback related to student interest in the curriculum; and (c) soliciting feedback about student perception of the relevance of curricular materials.
