The fourth quarter Bureau of Labor statistics show an improvement in the employment situation for Vietnam veterans, including employment for Negro and other minority races. The unemployment rate for newly discharged veterans is still slightly higher than that for nonveterans, but the rate for age group (20-24 and 25-30) is decreasing as a result of the improved job market during 1973 and of special efforts to employ veterans. Attendance in school was the reason most frequently given by veterans and nonveterans for neither working nor seeking work. At the end of 1973, veterans' unemployment rate had fallen to about four percent, the lowest level in more than three years. The proportion of employed veterans was smaller than that of nonveterans in professional-technical jobs and larger in craft jobs.
