A Sampler of Women's Studies.
McGuigan, Dorothy Gies, Ed.
This collection of papers reflects varied aspects of the female condition. Each documents a perspective on that condition: "Woman as Artistic Innovator" comments on female choreographers; "City Women and Religious Change in Sixteenth-Century France" explores the impact of the Reformation on one particular group of women; "Women and the Jural Domain" outlines the traditional realms of female activity and suggests a reason for continued inactivity in the jural domain even today; "Women: The New Political Class" traces the politicizing of American Women in the 1960's; "Classical Mythology and the Role of Women in Modern Literature" explores the alternative roles available to women as they were depicted in mythology and as they persist today; "Feminist History in Perspective: Sociological Contributions to Biographic Analysis" discusses biases in the biographical treatment of feminists and proposes a new approach to biographical analysis; and "Educating Women for Leadership: A Program for the Future" urges a reform in higher education that would improve the self-concept of women and train them to be competent leaders in society. The collection concludes with biographies of the authors and an index. (JH)
