An analysis of the concept of motivation in learning situations and of factors related to it is presented. Part I of the book focuses upon basic principles of motivation, which is defined as the extent to which stimuli effect the presence or absence of a given behavior. Other concepts discussed include competing behaviors, reinforcement, and extinction. Part II deals with the ideas of purposes and attitudes and their relationships to motivation, while the third major section treats teachers, teacher training, accountability, and responsibility, as each of these relate to motivation diagnosis checklist, to be used in determining if learners have motivation problems, and a list of suggested readings are also provided.
