Restructured Registration and Instructional Options.
Simmons, Danny J.
The project at Beaufort County Technical Institute has culminated in the development of an instructional system that provides each student desiring to enter the Electrical Technology curriculum the opportunity to enroll at any time during the year and to work at a pace determined by his own ability, background and motivation. The systems approach was designed to develop multisensory approaches to the learning process, thus providing for students with a wide range of academic backgrounds the opportunity to satisfy their learning styles in more than one way. Discussed in detail are five core objectives of the project: (1) multientrance dates, (2) measurable objectives structure, (3) student pacing, (4) positive reinforcement, and (5) individual attention and instruction. The function of the instructor is based on his flexibility and his ability to provide personal teachings and make evaluative judgements where needed, rather than to be merely the medium of instruction. Students with low academic motivation scores are performing and achieving satisfactorily in the newly designed curriculum, thus providing negative correlation for the test instrument used. (SA)
