Institute of Library Research, University of California, Annual Report, July 1972 to June 1973.
Thelin, John, Ed.; Shaw, Bonnie F., Ed.
The Institute of Library Research is a statewide organized research unit of the University of California whose activities have been directed toward the objectives of education, research, and public service. During the period from July 1972 to July 1973, the Institute underwent structural reorganization in which all of its operations were consolidated into the operation of the Berkeley branch and in which the University-Wide Library Automation Program (ULAP) was expanded and established as a separate Center within ILR. The research projects and services undertaken by the ILR staff are affiliated with and supportive of the academic program of the UC Berkeley School of Librarianship and the UCLA School of Library Service. In addition to research and development in computer applications and automated procedures for solving library problems, ILR projects involve investigations of library service needs, problems of social needs and library access, production of library tools, development of data bases, and systems analysis.
