The School Library Media Center; A Force For Educational Excellence. Second Edition.
Davies, Ruth Ann
The modern school media center is a learning laboratory whose function is to enrich, to vitalize, and humanize the educational program. Relating the library program to today's educational goals, this book details the design of the media center and the role of the library media specialist in curriculum development and support. Chapters are devoted to support of the guidance program and of each major subject area. Sample resource units are presented, as are guidelines for the evaluation and use of print and non-print materials. Consideration is given to the evaluation of the media center's program, facilities and personnel, with a number of check lists provided for this purpose. The appendixes, comprising two-fifths of the book, include such related articles as instructions for the writing of minicourses, an elementary reading interest survey, a grade placement chart of social studies skills, and sample library policy statements.
