VD Facts. The Need for VD Education. Starting a VD Education Program.
Oldham, Neild B., Ed.
This instructional packet has four components treating various aspects of the school's approach to venereal disease instruction at the junior and senior high school levels. (1) "The Need for VD Education is a small booklet that can be used to inform staff or the general public about the alarming rise in venereal disease among teenagers. The case for VD education in the schools is made and backed by statistics. It may also be used as a tool in public relations campaigns to generate public support for VD education. (2) "Starting a VD Education Program" is for the administrator or teacher who is establishing a VD education program. It recounts some of the experiences other districts have had and lessons they learned. A sample pretest used by one school nurse to determine extent of need is included. Also given are lists of sources for materials that can be used either in classroom instruction or for staff inservice training. (3) "VD Facts," a record to accompany a filmstrip, presents VD facts in a manner teenagers can understand and respond to. (4) "VD Facts Comic Book" illustrates with picture and text the frames of the filmstrip and may be used to reinforce classroom work and discussion. (BL)
