The second volume of a study of former Texas high school students who left as graduates or dropouts during the school years 1963-64 and 1968-69 contains the study respondents' comments on school counselors, extracurricular activities, and dropouts, career goals, and employment experiences. Respondents who had contact with counselors questioned the adequacy of the assistance received from them. Extracurricular activities were highly approved, especially athletics. On the other hand, some respondents criticized the overemphasis of athletics in relation to academic programs. The major reason for dropouts cited by those who had not dropped out was boredom or lack of interest. The reason most frequently given by the dropouts was marriage and/or pregnancy. Approximately one-fourth of the respondents terminated their formal education with high school. Postsecondary schools were selected principally because of closeness to home. Of the career goals named, the teaching profession was the predominant field. However, the principal source of employment for most was in marketing and distribution.
