The Computer in Schools-A Summary.
Anderson, Ake
The Swedish National Board of Education sent a study group to the United States to collect information concerning trends on the educational uses of computers and, drawing upon what was learned on the trip to America, to determine the future role of computers in Swedish education. Visits were made to approximately 20 American institutions such as universities, research institutes, and government bureaus which have substantial computer oriented programs underway. Information was gathered about the computer: 1) as a calculator; 2) related to administrative tasks; 3) applied to instruction; 4) used for simulations; and 5) utilized for research and documentation. The resulting Swedish pilot study aimed to identify problem areas, clarify the uses of the computer, and develop a cost estimate for introducing computers into Swedish education. (PB)
