World Survey of Education, V: Educational Policy, Legislation and Administration.
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, Paris (France).
This report presents comprehensive, standardized, statistical, and descriptive educational information for 194 States and territories. The information was compiled from responses to questionnaires sent to country representatives and is designed to contribute to the comparative study of education by marshalling a large amount of material normally difficult of access. Introductory chapters sketch some of the more significant generalizations that can be drawn from a study of the detail presented in the country-by-country sections. These introductory chapters are intended to help readers build up a general outline of the more significant features of the international scene. These chapters also trace trends in a worldwide scene. The bulk of the volume is devoted to an alphabetical country-by-country presentation of information. The information for each country is arranged under the general headings of (1) aims and policy; (2) legal basis of the educational system; and (3) educational administration -- administrative structure, finance, building and equipment, operation of the educational system, and educational planning.
