PROGRAMA DE EDUCACION INTERAMERICANA is a project of Texas A&M University in liaison with the Bryan Independent School District. The objectives of the program are to improve the knowledge and understanding of Texas teachers and students about other American cultures. Study teams of educators research and, in midsummer, travel to selected countries. (Past trips have included Argentina, Canada, Haiti, and Brazil.) On their return, reports are made and instructional programs of slides, movies, and tapes are developed for circulation throughout Texas and later to other states. The program contributes to teacher education in that the 98 participating teachers experienced an immersion in the 27 countries visited that would have been impossible if they had traveled as individuals.
