This book is addressed primarily to those who facilitate early learning in art education. It consists of essays by writers whose background enables them to speak insightfully on their topic. Several essays are written by teachers of preprimary children. Others were written by research workers who have studied the art of young children. Articles include: 1) a brief survey of research on the child's development as a background for viewing his artistic growth; 2) a review of studies that trace artistic evolution in the preprimary years; 3) an exploration of the origins of creative power in children; 4) a discussion of the roles of parent and teacher; 5) ideas on how art contributes to general learning; 6) information on acquiring, storing, and presenting creative materials for young children; and 7) contrasting models of early education programs.
