This is a curriculum guide for teaching dental health for grades 4-6. Each topic area is outlined under the headings of: (1) reference; (2) major understandings and fundamental concepts; (3) suggested teaching aids and learning activities; and (4) supplementary information for teachers. Main topics include: (1) growth and development of teeth; (2) nutrition and dental health; (3) dental health status; (4) maintaining oral hygiene; and (5) the dentist and dental health. Some of the course objectives are to: (1) develop good dental health habits including personal care and proper diet; (2) understanding the relationship of dental health to general health; (3) appreciate the relationship of dental health to appearance; (4) encourage periodic professional dental treatment; (5) avoid accidents to teeth, and (6) help the children understand and avoid habits which adversely affect dental health.
