Toward the Human Element. Beginning Handbook for Change. Volume I.
Prince, Gerald; And Others
The primary aim of this handbook is to encourage and stimulate growth and renewal of the "human element" within the school environment. Four processes form the objectives that are fundamental to achieving this goal: problem solving, shared decision making, open communications, and accountability. Skills in these four processes are discussed in great detail along with methods of developing them through role playing, simulation activities, lecturettes, case studies, buzz groups and brainstorming techniques. A variety of resources are used, such as films, tapes, articles, structured exercises and workshop leaders. Aimed primarily at teachers and administrators, all the materials in this work are interdisciplinary in nature, integrating concepts, theory and practice from psychology; communications; learning theory; business and school management; change process; decision theory; achievement motivation; conflict resolution; leadership; and staff and community relations. Strong emphasis is placed on skill development and application to the job. (Author/FDI)
