These trial examinations in handicrafts for certification in secondary education in England are similar to previously published trial examinations in religious knowledge, experimental exams, and the place of the personal topic in history. Half of the booklet deals with (1) the trial examination's history and description, (2) details of the examinations: teachers' estimates, craft planning and practice, theory papers, and personal study; (3) statistical analysis, including data on the structure of the examination, general points about the efficiency of examining, and results of testing on craft planning and practice, theory and craft background, personal study, and the examination as a whole; and (4) general discussion. The remainder of the report consists of appendixes on correlations of aspects of the candidates' work in woodwork and metalwork, distribution of total impression of 3 marks, reliability estimates, item appraisals, translations of candidates' rank order into scores, trial examination papers, and estimating and marking sheets.
