Statistics for the Teacher or How to Put Figures in Their Place.
Crocker, A. C.
A nontechnical approach to statistics is presented. The examples and illustrations have been drawn from the classroom and the needs of teachers who wish to measure and understand the progress of their pupils. The areas covered include the following topics: (1) different forms of average, middle value, dispersion of data around the average, and the use of graphs in displaying numerical information; (2) tests, their reliability and validity, and how to analyze test items; (3) marking and standardized scores; and (4) correlation, standard errors, and significance tests. Practice questions including the answers are provided, along with square root tables, chi-test tables, an index of formulae, and an index of possible needs. (Author/JS)
