Poverty on the Land - In a Land of Plenty.
Myers, Robin, Comp.
The problems of agricultural laborers were discussed in this report on the public hearings held by the National Advisory Committee on Farm Labor. Problems were identified in the areas of wages of farm workers, labor standards and labor shortages, welfare, marginal farmers, Federal aid, public assistance in rural areas, family farmers, and the monopoly of land and water. The major conclusion was that there is a need for total commitment to the war on poverty among the migrants and other farm workers. Twenty-three recommendations made by the National Advisory Committee in light of the hearings were in the areas of legislation to aid the farm worker and family farmer, legislation to aid the rural poor, government action to aid the farm worker and family farmer, and government action to aid the rural poor.
