Steps to an Ecology of Mind.
Bateson, Gregory
This book contends that we create the world we perceive because we select and edit reality to conform to our beliefs; that our cultural mind has come to a point where the dissonance between reality and false beliefs is so great that it is impossible to avoid the awareness that the world no longer makes sense; and that only once this awareness takes place is it possible for the mind to consider radically different ideas and perceptions. This theme is developed throughout the collection of articles and essays which comprise this book, particularly with reference to the environment and ecology. It is organized into parts which include general discussions, form and pathology in anthropology, form and pathology in relationship, biology and evolution, epistemology and ecology, and crisis in the ecology of mind.
