Principles of student-centered high school English teaching are developed in which student-centered theory is applied to the content of high school English. According to these principles, self-relaxation releases self-motivation for self-enhancement through significant learning which influences behavior. The teacher is left free to play a facilitative role in which he helps create an acceptant atmosphere. Illustrative procedures are suggested for beginning and for dealing with literature and reading, composition and writing, language, speaking and listening, thinking and values, and evaluation. Procedures to be avoided are also included along with problems and possible solutions. The study suggests that student-centered high school English teaching may be successful and compatible with accepted goals in English teaching. (LH)
