Based on information provided by public television and radio station licensees to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), this report presents financial data for fiscal year 1970 for CPB-qualified public radio stations in the United States. A brief discussion of the 91 CPB-qualified public radio stations is provided first, along with an accounting of incomes both from instructional services and indirect operation costs absorbed by other institutions. Direct operating costs and capital expenditures are next outlined, and a final section briefly deals with cumulative capital expenditures. Summary tables, comprising the major portion of the report, offer complete descriptions of these data classified by geographical region and type of licensee. Appended are criteria for determining CPB assistance eligibility, a history of surveys of CPB-qualified public radio stations, a methodological description of surveys conducted, and questionnaire items and definitions.
