Man: A Course of Study. Seminars for Teachers.
Education Development Center, Inc., Newton, MA.
Seminars designed as a guide for teachers who meet together regularly while teaching the intermediate grade course Man: A Course of Study are presented in this book. The seminar series provides a framework for the course itself, including opportunities for teachers to explore classroom concepts and materials and offering a structure for examining educational issues in terms of the learner, the teacher, and materials. Objectives of the forum are to provide for: 1) considerations of the relationship between discipline content and concepts and the process of learning and teaching; 2) the interplay between developments in the classroom and the education of teachers; 3) a continuous and deepening sense of teachers as colleagues; and 4) the possibility of professional identification for teachers as the basis for participation in decisions about education. A variety of perspectives offered in the twenty seminars are intended to be suggestive rather than prescriptive, and are applicable to other courses where process education is important. Although seminar topics were varied, each one focused upon two uniquely human processes---symbolic learning and education. Related documents are ED 045 461, ED 049 963, and SO 002 582. (Author/SJM)
