New tactics for teaching the disadvantaged must be developed which are significantly different from traditional approaches which have been used with advantaged children. Creative strategies in teaching must be developed which utilize sound teaching and learning theories and which, at the same time, are able to be continuously evaluated in a scientific manner. Presented here are some of the creative attempts at new strategies as well as successful contemporary programs academic improvement, but must also deal with psychosocial deficits.
