Unit: Skin and Clothes, Inspection Pack, National Trial Print.
Australian Science Education Project, Toorak, Victoria.
The teachers' guide to this unit in the series being produced by the Australian Science Education Project contains lists of cognitive and affective objectives. The topics included in the materials include a treatment of the physiology of skin, the limits of human tolerance to environmental variables, the cultural and physiological reasons for wearing clothing, the microbial flora of human skin, and the characteristics of fibers used for clothing. There is a readiness unit concerned with heat transfer that may be taken by students who do not demonstrate mastery of the concepts on a pretest. The student materials are designed for students working at their own pace, either individually or in small groups. Options are provided for a more intensive study of many of the aspects of clothing design and physiology that are considered in the introductory section. The students' workbook and record book contain a series of suggested laboratory activities and questions to guide thinking. The teachers' guide contains hints on class management, lists of materials needed, and a list of references and audio-visual aids. (AL)
