The Two-Year Institution in American Higher Education.
Burnett, Collins W., Ed.
Bureau of School Service Bulletin, v44 n2 December 1971
Although the articles in this issue of the Bulletin focus on Kentucky, they have implications for public and private 2-year institutions nationwide. Seven articles are presented dealing with current problems in the community college segment of higher education. The topics covered in these articles are: (1) the underlying desire of many 2-year college teachers to change their institution into a 4-year college; (2) the rigid organizational, temporal, and spatial structure of American college campuses and educational process; (3) the need for better articulation from high school to junior college to senior college; (4) the state of the community college system (1964-1970); (5) the present status of faculty morale in a community college system; (6) the role of the academic deanship in the private junior college; and (7) the contemporary problems facing private junior and community colleges and some suggested solutions.
