Mathematical Programming Models in Educational Planning.
McNamara, James F.
This document begins by defining and discussing educational planning. A brief overview of mathematical programing with an explanation of the general linear programing model is then provided. Some recent applications of mathematical programing techniques to educational planning problems are reviewed, and their implications for educational research methodology are noted. Applications of linear programing are given at national, State, and local levels, with emphasis on problems at the local school district level. The document concludes with some directions and implications for future research, and a discussion of mathematical programing applications in light of recent developments in educational programing-planning-budgeting systems.
