Developing and Training the Supervisor.
Bowen, Constance M.
This book has been written for the managers of small or medium sized companies who are faced with the problem of training their supervisors. Because the role of the supervisor has to be adapted to the situation in which he works, there cannot be a formula for his development and training. The process will be one of interchange between the training manager and the supervisor in which each learns from the other. The supervisor can be encouraged to develop his own personality, while attempting to understand the personalities of those with whom he must work and communicate. The book is divided into 16 chapters: (1) The supervisor, (2) Supervisory responsibilities, (3) People at work, (4) The woman supervisor, (5) Training in a section, (6) The supervisor as a trainee, (7) The graduate supervisor, (8) Discipline, (9) Paperwork, (10) The new recruit, (11) Legislation affecting employment, (12) Workers and their environment, (13) Psychological aspects to be considered, (14) Safety and health, (15) The company, and (16) Conclusion. Suggested reading for both the supervisor and the graduate trainee is given, as is a subject index. (Author/CK)
