To determine whether the so-called "two-cultures gap" exists between the humanities and the sciences in high school, and if so, its extent and nature, a series of relatively unstructured interviews were held with science and humanities teachers in six Connecticut high schools to determine what attitudinal differences existed between the two groups. An instrument consisting of an attitude scale and an information test was then developed and validated. The instrument was administered to 118 teacher volunteers, and the results were subjected to the sign test, comparison of mean scores, and t tests. Results indicate that there is a discernible two-cultures gap in the high school; both groups of teachers felt that there was a gap. Results of the information-test portion of the instrument suggested that part of the two-cultures gap felt by teachers is associated with their apprehension about being well informed on both cultures.
