An Attitudinal Survey Concerning the Responsibilities of the Intermediate-Level Director of Vocational Education in California.
Stanger, Norman Robert
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the functions of the county vocational education director in California as perceived by selected groups of vocational education leaders. The functions were limited to the service responsibilities of the position, exclusive of its administrative responsibilities for the improvement of instruction. An instrument, including a list of duties and functions of vocational education directors, was devised for gathering data regarding the views of specialist groups. Also, statements of duties and responsibilities prepared by county and district vocational education supervisors were examined. A rank-order listing of the importance of items revealed top-ratings in the area of administrative and executive functions, and for functions concerned with the instructional program and with professional improvement. Lowest ratings were accorded practices associated with the physical aspects of vocational education. In comparing importance-ratings with acceptability-ratings made by the total sample, twice as many items were judged to be of top importance as were judged to be satisfactory in actual performance.
