Migration Patterns of Vocational Agriculture Graduates in Ohio. A Research Report of a Graduate Study.
Noland, Warren G.; Woodlin, Ralph J.
The purpose of this study was to determine migration and occupational patterns of Ohio vocational agriculture graduates and to identify any relationships between individual characteristics and migration during the first 5 years following their graduation in 1963. Nearly 200 responses by graduates of 45 randomly selected vocational agriculture departments indicated that most graduates entered nonagricultural occupations, and four out of five remained within 25 miles of their home communities even after 5 years. Recommendations cover: (1) guidance and occupational information, (2) placement and followup for at least 2 years, (3) guidance for potential agricultural technicians and professionals, (4) curriculums adapted to local needs, (5) expansion of the young farmer association, and (6) teacher recognition of differences in migration patterns between urban and rural districts.
