Child Protective Services: A National Survey. Final Report.
American Humane Association, Englewood, CO. Children's Div.
This document reports on a nationwide survey to assess the status and availability of Child Protective Services, a specialized child welfare program. Specific objectives of the survey were: (1) to determine what states and communities are currently (1967) engaged in providing protective services to neglected and abused children, (2) to identify the auspices and legal bases of such programs, (3) to assess each program's size and scope, and (4) to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs in meeting actual community needs. The study also analyzes legislation for the mandatory reporting of child abuse cases. Included in the report is a state-by-state review of voluntary and public agency responsibility for child protective services. Discussions encompass legal bases, operational and program policies, staffing patterns, and comparison of services available in all 50 states and territories. (Author/AJ)
