Programming Interpersonal Curricula for Adolescents (PICA) Project Year Three: A Laboratory Model.
Cohen, Harold L.; And Others
The report reviews the third year of a 4-year demonstration and research project, Programing Interpersonal Curricula for Adolescents (PICA). General purpose is to develop remedial procedures for adolescents with both scholastic and social or behavioral problems. In a half day educational program 12 such students study academic and interpersonal subject matter in a contingency-managed system under which students are monetarily rewarded for both academic achievement and appropriate behavior, and are penalized for inappropriate behavior. The report covers purpose and objectives, student selection and enrollment, results in the areas of intelligence and achievement testing and attendance records, the interpersonal skills curricula, the academic program in English and mathematics, the school liaison program, and the family liaison program. Appendixes present additional information on PICA student regulations, the student activity level program, PICA data management, the behavior modification program for tardy students, and a proposal for a junior high school skills center.
