An Analysis of the Administrative Structure and the Role of the Chief Vocational-Technical Education Administrator in Public Junior Colleges.
Whitney, Larry Jerome
To identify job characteristics and patterns of administrative structure, and to analyze relationships between administrative level and job titles and characteristics, questionnaires were sent to the head vocational education administrators at all the junior colleges listed in the 1966 "Junior College Directory." Based on 255 responses, the study concluded that: (1) Necessary preparation includes a master's degree in educational administration, vocational education, or industrial education, plus experience, (2) There are eight basic administrative structures, with the vocational education administrator at the second or third level, (3) 12 month contracts at salaries over $12,000 are typical, (4) Most administrators devote full time to administration, and (5) Actual and desired titles and administrative level are related.
